How to Delete a Story on Facebook

Deleting a story on Facebook is a straightforward process that ensures your content remains under your control. Whether it’s a photo or video, here’s how you can delete it from your story on Facebook. Facebook stories are a fun way to promote events, tell people about a vacation as it’s happening, or create buzz about just about anything. They appear above a Facebook user’s feed, placed there to get noticed. You can quickly add text to a photo or video (as well as the latest fun filters) and have it in front of people in seconds. The flip side of a Facebook story’s visibility is its fleeting existence. Unlike a normal post, Facebook stories are only active for 24 hours — but if you’ve made a mistake in the text or uploaded the wrong photo, that’s still far too long.

Steps to Delete a Story on Facebook

  1. Go to the Stories section at the top of your Feed.
  2. Click Your Story, which is located between Create story and stories from your friends.
  3. Select the photo or video you want to delete.
  4. Tap on the three-dot menu icon and then click Story Options in the top right corner.
  5. Select Delete Photo or Delete Video. Facebook will ask you to confirm the deletion. Click on Delete to finish removing your story.

Once you delete a story on Facebook, it will also be removed from Messenger. Any modifications made to your story will sync across both platforms. Important Notes

  • If you delete your story, it won’t be archived unless you manually archive it.
  • Changes made to your story will reflect on both Facebook and Messenger.
  • You can mute someone else’s story if you don’t want to see it in your Stories section.
  • There is no hard limit on how many stories you can post or how often, but since a story only lasts for 24 hours, you should probably opt for quality and good timing (early afternoon is best) over sheer quantity to get your message out.
